Letters from the Road

Fi's seen a lot of weird stuff on the road with her family! Here are some of her emails.

Cincinnati, Ohio

Hey guys,

Well, we're on the way to Cincinnati. I don't know if Ohio is going to look any different, but right now it's farms farms farms. I don't know how Ned stays awake up there - if the cows didn't have different colored spots sometimes you wouldn't know we aren't standing still. Jack and Clu have been "practicing" (also known as CONSTANTLY SLAMMING POWER CHORDS) non-stop, which is making it even harder for me to concentrate on this algebra homework. Does anybody know if there's math in real life?

Hi,

Some heavy stuff this week, not the least of which is the serious bruise on my right hip! Only this time it wasn't me falling through floorboards - it was a bone marrow transplant (I was the donor). Just when I thought things were getting dull - we were driving through these ENDLESS farms going into Ohio - suddenly Ned swerves off the road and plows through this farmer's fence. Irene thought Ned had dozed off, but Ned swore he saw a man in the road, right in front of the bus. No sign of the man, but later, the farmer's daughter - Gabe - told me it was an angel. I didn't believe her at first; in fact, I was sure it was some demon, trying to hurt her. But Gabe was right - the angel, or whatever it was, was running potential donors off the road, trying to find a match for Gabe, who has acute myologenous leukemia (I think I spelled that right). I guess I was the first person who stuck around long enough to listen. Gabe's going to be out of the hospital soon, and I hope we'll be hearing from her - I stuck an old 14.4 modem in that computer of hers, and gave her my e-address. (I think JACK is waiting to hear from her TOO!!)
