About

Fi's seen a lot of weird stuff on the road with her family! Here are some of her favorite weird stories.
PS: These stories are fictional and were created as episodes of a paranormal TV show back at the end of the 90s. All credit belongs to their writers at Disney.

Tadpoles Made of Light

Another thing to file under truth is stranger than fiction: Have you ever heard an explanation of a story that was even crazier than the stories itself? Look at this stuff I found out about Will o' the Wisps while cruising through the Internet. Will o the Wisps are strange lights people see hovering right above the ground. There are records of sightings of these "ghost lights" going back hundreds of years. Originally they were believed to be tricky fairies or nasty spirits or so the story goes. Other stories tell of these spirits luring kids into the woods and then possessing their bodies. Sounds like an old-fashioned version of the boogey man to me! Naturally, some people were skeptical about all this fairy business. The common explanation was that gases from rotting vegetation in the woods would rise up and catch briefly on fire. But here's the creepy part: Scientists couldn't recreate these mini-fires in their laboratories, so they started looking for other facts. Along comes this researcher, Paul Devereux, who wrote a book in 1982 that claimed Will o' the Wisps and other such phenomena are caused by tectonic strains in the Earth's crust, the same thing that leads to earthquakes. He and other members of his team believe that when big plates of rock rub against each other, they cause a kind of spark. This would mean these ghost lights are similar to lightning that takes place in the ground! Isn't that crazy? It gets SO better: Using this theory, scientists CAN actually recreate these lights. What's more, I even read that some people in Japan saw "strange lights shaped like wiggling tadpoles" an hour before an earthquake hit. Can you imagine seeing little balls of light come out of the ground? Major weird! It's no wonder some people still believe that Will o' the Wisps are ghosts, fairies, or UFOs!
